EBA Meeting with the General Secretary of the Animal Health Europe Association

22/ 04/ 2024
A meeting took place between EBA Committee Manager Dmytro Kyryliuk and Secretary General of Animal Health Europe, Roxane Feller. The EBA Veterinary Medicine Manufacturers Committee is a member of Animal Health Europe, which is a leading association in Europe representing veterinary medicine manufacturers. The association advocates for its members interests at the EU level and actively participates in the development of new regulations and policies concerning veterinary medicines. During the meeting, the following topics were discussed: Updates to EU veterinary legislation and the harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU standards: The meeting took place against the backdrop of protests by farmers in Brussels, demanding the simplification and revision of EU veterinary legislation. The European Parliament is currently working on new rules for the veterinary medicinal products market, including their circulation and application, updating regulations for the care and movement of farm animals, as well as improving rules for the care and treatment of pets. Harmonizing Ukrainian legislation with EU norms: This sparked a lively discussion regarding the implementation of EU standards. The main legislative framework governing veterinary medicinal products was adopted by the EU at the end of 2019 (Regulation 2019/6). This document is mandatory for almost word-for-word implementation by all EU member states. Since its adoption, European regulators and market participants have been in continuous dialogue about the development, execution, and revision of the document or its specific parts. In Ukraine, an updated version of the Law on Veterinary Medicine has already been adopted, set to come into effect one year after the end of the war. Meanwhile, amendments are being drafted to further align this law with EU requirements. As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to create a working group consisting of leading international experts on the technical aspects of implementing EU legislation. The goal of this working group is to assist Ukrainian officials in correctly and fully implementing EU legislative requirements in Ukraine. We look forward to fruitful cooperation!
