EBA Committees Manager joins Food Donor Day press conference

22/ 05/ 2025
At the invitation of the Ukrainian Food Banks Federation, Tetiana Shyrochenko, Committees Manager at the European Business Association, took part in a press conference dedicated to Food Donor Day. The event served as a platform for discussing the issue of food waste in Ukraine. Tetiana Shyrochenko shared insights from European practices in tackling food disposal, particularly highlighting the practical model of the German organisation Tafel. She also outlined opportunities for effectively reducing food losses in Ukraine. The implementation of international best practices in food loss and waste management is highly relevant in the context of Ukraine’s European integration process. In particular, it aligns with Target 12.3 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which calls for halving global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reducing losses along production and supply chains by 2030. The press conference also emphasised the critical role of businesses in supporting food donation initiatives. According to a recent UN World Food Programme release, around 5 million Ukrainians are currently experiencing food insecurity, especially in frontline regions. It is worth noting that, according to the European Business Association’s survey Business Forecasts for 2025, 59% of respondent companies planned to implement social initiatives, allocating an average of 6% of their revenue for such efforts. Supporting food donation could become one of these impactful social projects. Reducing food waste can significantly contribute to transforming Ukraine’s agri-food systems, increasing food accessibility, promoting healthy diets, and strengthening food security.
