EBA welcomes appointment of new Head of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine

The European Business Association welcomes the appointment of the Director of the Economic Security Bureau. On 6 August, the Government approved the appointment of Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi as the new Head of the ESB, whose candidacy had been selected by the Commission for the Selection of the ESB Director. The EBA business community has long and consistently advocated for a reboot of the Economic Security Bureau to enhance its efficiency and mitigate corruption risks. The business community expects that the fight against economic crimes by the renewed Bureau will be based primarily on analytical work and constructive cooperation with the tax and customs authorities, as well as with civil society representatives. We strongly believe this approach will help prevent undue pressure on bona fide taxpayers and avoid unwarranted criminal investigations and the resulting reputational risks for honest businesses. Business also hopes for effective cooperation in combating smuggling, illegal trade, particularly in excisable goods, and other shadow schemes that distort fair competition for compliant businesses.
