A major concern for businesses is the need to revise the Draft Law of Ukraine on the Timber Market (revised) (Reg. No. <a href=\"https:\/\/eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fitd.rada.gov.ua%2FbillInfo%2FBills%2FCard%2F56311&amp;data=05%7C02%7CValeriia.Diachok%40new.eba.com.ua%7C6102e9777adf4aa468d708dddb0bc152%7C92456a16661b498eadd5e224c7dd6afa%7C0%7C0%7C638907565744483707%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=XQXKX9xpy5FP7raS4XWKBV3%2FfdXCF7kw37a%2Fpy%2FWKA4%3D&amp;reserved=0\">13227<\/a> dated 01.05.2025).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"789\" data-end=\"1057\">During the roundtable, Member of Parliament Bohdan Kytsak emphasised the necessity to further improve the updated draft law \u201cOn the Timber Market\u201d, following on-site meetings with representatives of both businesses and government bodies, including local authorities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1059\" data-end=\"1342\">Experts from the EBA welcomed this approach, as the business community believes that a sectoral law regulating the functioning of the timber market must be fully aligned with domestic wood-processing enterprises and reflect market realities and principles of competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1344\" data-end=\"1553\">According to the EBA\u2019s member companies, the current version of the draft law creates unequal conditions for market participants and poses risks to the proper functioning of the wood-processing sector.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1638\">The EBA\u2019s experts highlight the following provisions that require revision:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1638\">The division of wood processors into \u201csmall\u201d and others, introducing restrictions on participation in certain stages of exchange trading.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1638\">Linking the participation of small wood processors in auctions to the region where their production facilities are located.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1638\">Granting excessive powers to the authorised body to set rules for auction participation, determine shares, and allocate timber volumes between small and other processors, etc.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1638\">Providing preferential conditions for small wood-processing enterprises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2166\" data-end=\"2651\">The business community draws particular attention to the importance of adopting the key industry draft law \u201cOn the Timber Market\u201d in a version acceptable to both businesses and government representatives, considering the crucial role of the law in the functioning of the timber market.
