On 30 April, the European Business Association held a general meeting with Natalia Kalmykova, the Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine. Participants discussed key areas of veterans’ policy, the challenges, and opportunities for business involvement in the reintegration of defenders into civilian life.<\/p>\n

Today, there are over 1 million veterans registered in the state register. Some have already returned to civilian life, while others continue to defend Ukraine. This represents a significant portion of the working-age population, and issues surrounding their adaptation, support, and development are among the state’s priorities.<\/p>\n

Natalia Kalmykova presented the key provisions of the Veterans’ Policy Strategy for 2030, which is based on three strategic objectives:<\/p>\n

    Development of human capital, well-being of veterans and their families (including economic independence and state guarantees)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Honour the memory of the fallen and gratitude to the living<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Define the role of veterans in strengthening national security and defence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Ms Kalmykova also highlighted the role of business in this process. The Ministry has already prepared Guidelines for the employment of veterans and supports the creation of 28 veterans’ development centres at higher education institutions across Ukraine. Companies can become clients for educational programmes at these centres.<\/p>\n

    Among the Ministry\u2019s legislative priorities is the adoption of the Law on Veteran Entrepreneurship (currently being prepared for its second reading), as well as initiatives in the field of veteran sports.<\/p>\n

    The Minister reminded that businesses can join the signing of the “Principles of Business Friendly to Veterans.” This document brings together responsible companies that aim to create decent working conditions for veterans. 57 Ukrainian and international companies, including member companies of the Association and the European Business Association, have already joined the initiative. Additionally, over 30 companies expressed their intention to sign the document during the meeting.<\/p>\n

    Active business participation is critically important. The private sector is a key partner in the reintegration process, adapting the working environment, and developing employment opportunities.<\/p>\n
