Halts in production and company operations caused by air raid alerts pose a significant challenge for businesses in Ukraine. The current air raid alert system covers entire regions, forcing enterprises and institutions to suspend activities during every alert in the area. Members of the European Business Association point out that this blanket approach often results in unnecessary stoppages, even when there is no immediate threat in the vicinity of the enterprise.<\/p>\n
According to EBA member companies, operational downtime at enterprises can account for up to 50% of working hours. This leads to disruptions in production schedules, increased operational costs, and undermines export capacity and the stability of supply volumes.<\/p>\n
The introduction of a localised alert system based on a risk-oriented approach would restrict alerts to areas with genuine threats, ensuring the continuity of business processes. Ultimately, this would enhance stable operations, adherence to production plans, and bolster the financial stability of companies.<\/p>\n
This recommendation is outlined in an official letter from the European Business Association addressed to the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine \u2013 Minister of Economy of Ukraine and the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
At the same time, ensuring the safety of people has always been and remains the top priority for businesses. Halting production processes during alerts is a necessary measure to minimise risks to the lives and health of employees. It is therefore crucial for businesses to responsibly follow the recommendations of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine regarding operations during air raid alerts, while the National Police of Ukraine and local military administrations ensure compliance with these guidelines.<\/p>\n
The European Business Association suggests considering the implementation of a targeted alert system and developing a solution that strikes a balanced approach, accounting for both business and societal interests.
