Recently, the Verkhovna Rada registered a draft law on priority measures to reform the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine No. 10088 dated September 25, 2023.<\/p>\n
The EBA experts analyzed this document and it should be noted that business supports the idea of rebooting the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine (ESBU) as well as the criminal justice system in the field of combating economic crime in general. This, among other things, involves eliminating duplication of functions of law enforcement agencies, clearly defining powers and jurisdiction to investigate crimes in the economic, financial and tax spheres, which, in turn, should prevent undue pressure on business.<\/p>\n
In particular, the main idea is that ESBU employees should be selected on a competitive basis in several stages without giving any preference to candidates who currently work in existing law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n
To achieve this goal, the business believes that proper public representation in the ESBU competition commissions should be ensured and effective mechanisms of public control over the selection and dismissal of ESBU employees, including integrity checks, should be provided.<\/p>\n
At the same time, EBA experts are ready to join the work on preparing additional amendments for the second reading. So we hope that business will be included in the working group and that the business opinion will be taken into account.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
