This week, the Cabinet of Ministers dismissed Vadym Melnyk as head of the Bureau of Economic Security (BES). Thus, Eduard Fedorov, until recently the first deputy head of the BES, became the interim director.<\/p>\n
The European Business Association has prepared 4 priorities, which we very much hope will serve as a guide for the further work of the Bureau and its Head to ensure effective work and interaction with business.<\/p>\n
First, the business expects transparent, fair and impartial competition for the position of the new Head of the BES. As well as for all positions, even for the BES ordinary staff.<\/p>\n
Secondly, the emphasis of the body’s work should still be on the effective fight against shadow business, non-transparent “schemes”, and the fight against corruption (real analytical work to identify “schemes”, not focusing on technical errors) without unreasonable pressure on the transparent business. Especially in the current difficult situation in Ukraine, including the economic one, the principles of the newly created body should be based on the principles of analysis of Ukraine’s economic security, transparency, impartiality and honesty. The BES should become a guardian of economic security, not a machine of pressure on the business.<\/p>\n
Third, it is extremely important to filter the structure for old tax police personnel. For business, it is important that the BES does not become a place for the employment of old tax police personnel, a tool for increasing the number of controlling bodies and expanding their powers, with virtually no responsibility for the misconduct of civil servants.<\/p>\n
And, of course, fourthly, an effective dialogue with the BES is extremely important for the business community to discuss current issues and emerging problems in a prompt format, as this is crucial for maintaining a level playing field for business and for international investors’ confidence in Ukraine. After the launch of such global structures, after the change of leadership, and so on, they are subject to close attention \u2013 so it is extremely important to demonstrate transparency, efficiency, honesty and openness of work through concrete actions, not words!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
