Businesses from the Kharkiv region expectedly worsened the assessment of business conditions compared to last year. Thus, the European Business Association conducted a survey among local entrepreneurs, which showed a drop in sentiment from last year’s 2.69 to 1.28 points<\/strong> out of five possible this year. This is the lowest result among the regions we surveyed.<\/p>\n

Almost all the companies we surveyed, namely 93% reported that it is difficult for them to do business, and only 7% consider the current conditions satisfactory. Last year it was difficult for 45% of entrepreneurs, and for 41% it was satisfactory. Currently, there are no those who find it easy to do business, although there were 7% of them last year.<\/p>\n

The vast majority of respondents, namely 86%, believe that the business environment has deteriorated over the past six months. The key obstacles to their work are the outflow of staff abroad, a decrease in the purchasing power of the population, the loss of assets in the occupied territories, and difficulties with logistics and bureaucracy. Under these difficult conditions, only 14% of companies resorted to relocation within Ukraine, while 71% say that it is impossible to relocate the company.<\/p>\n

One third of business owners have assets under temporary occupation. Also, half of the surveyed entrepreneurs lost more than 50% of their income during martial law. At the same time, 7% did not suffer any losses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last year, business satisfactorily assessed the quality of interaction with regional authorities. This year, we see some deterioration in the assessment of the work of courts, customs, and territorial centers of recruitment and social support in the region. However, business assessed satisfactorily its experience of interaction with the tax service, the National Police, the regional military administration, and the city council.<\/p>\n

Besides, 71% of entrepreneurs consider the level of e-services development in the region to be satisfactory, which is significantly higher than last year (41%). The number of unsatisfactory assessments slightly decreased from last year’s 27% to the current 21%.\u00a0<\/p>\n

By the end of the year, the companies plan to maintain operations under martial law, optimize staff, provide employees with the opportunity to work remotely, and refuse to use office space.<\/p>\n

According to respondents, for the post-war recovery of the region, it is necessary to attract investments, support companies affected by the war, develop large infrastructure projects, create new jobs, and ensure transparency of the authorities.<\/p>\n
