As part of the \u201c50 Solar Hospitals\u201d project, the Ukrainian charity Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation and Huawei Ukraine have provided a leading hospital in the Dnipropetrovsk region with greater energy independence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They achieved this by installing a 30 kW hybrid solar power plant with a 62.1 kWh energy storage system at the medical facility.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the event of an emergency power outage, the hospital can now operate autonomously for an additional four hours thanks to the battery. This means that operations will no longer be interrupted while power is being restored and that life-support equipment will continue to function uninterrupted.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“When a blackout hit Ukraine in 2023, freezing everything in its path, the hospital continued to operate, though under extremely difficult conditions. Therefore, the solar station installed by the charitable foundation on the hospital’s roof is a step in the right direction. It will enable our surgeons to perform operations with functioning equipment in well-lit operating rooms. We will also be able to use the funds saved from operating the station to train our doctors, enabling them to save more lives at home in Ukraine,” <\/span><\/i>commented Valery Yaremchenko, director of the medical facility.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kryvyi Rih Central District Hospital, threatened with closure in 2021, has become a modern, multidisciplinary medical facility for adults and children. The hospital provides rehabilitation services after injuries, prosthetics, and complex surgical procedures, including same-day surgery. This is why patients from all over the district come here.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“We believe that a hospital is a place where electricity must always be available. Providing our equipment to increase this medical facility’s energy independence is more than just sponsorship. It is an investment in the sustainability of Ukraine’s healthcare system and in patient safety and care,” <\/span><\/i>said Tony Cao, Director of Huawei Ukraine.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024 alone, more than 1,800 operations were performed at the Kryvyi Rih hospital, and more than 74,000 patients received medical care, 14,000 of whom were inpatients. Increased energy independence will significantly boost the already impressive productivity of the medical facility and help save the lives of even more of our fellow citizens.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“When doctors can work during blackouts, technology is truly serving people. That is why we are installing solar stations in hospitals throughout Ukraine so patients can receive timely care and medical professionals can feel confident about their work, even under the most challenging circumstances,” <\/span><\/i>said Yuliana Onishchuk, founder and director of the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to preliminary estimates, the installed hybrid station will allow the Kryvyi Rih hospital to save approximately \u20ac6,658 on electricity bills annually.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation implemented the project with support from Huawei Ukraine and coordination assistance from the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing, and Utilities.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation<\/span><\/i><\/b> provides renewable solar energy solutions for schools and hospitals affected by Russian aggression in Ukraine as part of the \u201c100 Solar Schools,\u201d \u201c50 Solar Hospitals,\u201d and \u201cSolar Water Utilities\u201d campaigns.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The foundation installs hybrid solar power plants with energy storage systems for social and critical infrastructure facilities to ensure access to education, the ability to provide medical services even during power outages, and to promote positive change on the path to a sustainable future.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The foundation strives to instill a culture of conscious consumption of natural resources in the Ukrainian nation. That is why the foundation conducts a training course on \u201cSustainable Development and Green Energy\u201d for children, raising their level of knowledge about sustainability and energy sources and instilling ecological habits to bring Ukraine closer to a green future. About 2,000 children have already completed the course.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The foundation received recognition at the National Charity Ukraine competition in the category \u201cCharity in the field of ecology and environmental protection\u201d in Kyiv in 2024 and 2025, in the category \u201cPlatform of Good.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 The foundation was also awarded the \u201cGreen Initiative of the Year\u201d prize in Brussels in 2023, is a member of the European Solar Energy Association Solar Power Europe, the UN Global Compact Energy Initiative, and since early 2024, it has been part of a consortium of environmental organizations implementing the Renewable Energy Sources project in Ukraine.\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
