On May 12, the Food Committee of the European Business Association held a meeting with Oleksandr Haydu, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy of Ukraine<\/strong>. The participants discussed the key areas of the Committee\u2019s work aimed at developing the agricultural and food sectors, as well as Ukraine\u2019s progress on its path to European integration.<\/p>\n

One of the main topics of the meeting was the recently adopted Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada regarding the appeal to the European Union institutions to extend trade preferences for Ukrainian goods beyond June 5, 2025. Oleksandr Haydu informed the attendees about Ukraine\u2019s active engagement with EU representatives\u2014both at the level of relevant ministries and during inter-parliamentary meetings. According to him, there is noticeable support from European colleagues, which provides grounds for optimistic forecasts regarding the continuation of preferential trade in some form.<\/p>\n

The participants also discussed areas of work within the framework of the EU integration process. Currently, all parliamentary committees are preparing to screen legislative initiatives for compliance with EU law. The Agrarian and Land Policy Committee is actively preparing and reviewing EU-aligned draft laws.<\/p>\n

Other topics discussed included:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Draft Law No. 11062<\/strong> on plant protection products and fertilizers. The Association supports the initiative but emphasizes the need to revise transitional periods and implement a phased approach to the law’s enactment.<\/li>\n
  • Draft Law No. 12285-D<\/strong> “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine to Align Regulation in the Fields of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Welfare with European Union Law.” The Committee has revised and registered the updated version, which will soon be reviewed by the Parliament and opened for further refinement in cooperation with the business community.<\/li>\n
  • Amendments to the Laws of Ukraine<\/strong> \u201cOn Information for Consumers on Food Products\u201d (No. 2639-VIII) and \u201cOn Feed Safety and Hygiene\u201d (No. 2264-VIII). The Food Committee proposed several amendments, including changes to labeling language requirements and rules for indicating use-by dates for perishable goods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The Committee plans to continue working on these legislative initiatives in the agrarian, food, and agrochemical sectors through the end of 2025.<\/p>\n
