Restoration of the environmental safety in Boryslav and the surrounding region is the main goal of the monitoring and development of the corresponding action plan<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The results of the first stage of ecological monitoring in Boryslav, Lviv region, were discussed by the representatives of PJSC Ukrnafta, Boryslav City Council and Lamor Ukraine LLC, a joint venture to Lamor Ab (Finland) and main contractor for the works.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

During the meeting at the Residence of the Ambassador of Finland to Ukraine, the parties discussed the achievements of the first stage of comprehensive ecological monitoring, as well as various aspects of improving the conditions for social and environmental safety of the Boryslav population.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Ambassador of Finland to Ukraine, P\u00e4ivi Laine<\/strong>, emphasized the importance of abolishing the ecological hazards in Boryslav and the impact of that on the whole region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Ukrnafta Chairman of the Management Board Oleg Gez<\/strong> and Roman Iltio<\/strong>, Vice President for Social and Sustainability, spoke about the company’s efforts to improve the environmental situation in the region. In particular, the company is taking steps to eliminate gas pollution, caused by a long-term oil and gas production in the city.<\/p>\n

According to the head of Boryslav City Council, Igor Yavorsky<\/strong>, the state should not stand apart. There must be a special approach to this unique situation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mika Pirneskoski<\/strong>, CEO of Lamor Corporation Ab, attended the meeting online and stressed that the project is unique for Ukraine but Lamor specialists have multiple times performed similar tasks in different countries around the world and thus they possess the needed know-how and means to find solution to the problem. From the beginning of the project, representatives of both Lamor’s head office and regional offices have been involved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It was noted, that the situation in the city is a consequence of natural and anthropogenic factors. In particular, the geological structure and shallow deposits of oil and gas reservoirs with direct access to the surface, as well as long-term disorganized production in the past, in the 19th and early 20th centuries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In 2018, a decision was reached to conduct a comprehensive ecological study, which should lead to a plan of action to minimize hazards to humans and environment, caused by a long-term oil production.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The first stage of environmental monitoring was completed by Lamor Ukraine LLC, a joint venture between Lamor Corporation Ab (Porvoo, Finland) and LIGA Group (Kyiv, Ukraine).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Thus, the basis for further work in this direction is ready. The analysis of historical data and previous research is already carried out; compliance of environmental indicators with national and international standards has been established; maps of types and areas of pollution are formed; various factors were assessed, including oil production and, in the past, ozokerite production.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

For continuation of the project it is necessary to seek support also as from national as from international actors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The next stage of the project will be the development and implementation of an action plan to prevent further degradation of the environment and gradual restoration of the affected areas.<\/p>\n
