“Deadly Beautiful Exhibition” is open on 4-7 February<\/strong> 2021 at the National Museum “Kyiv Art Gallery”, Kyiv, Ukraine. Free entrance.<\/p>\n

On February 4, World Cancer Day, the “Deadly Beautiful Exhibition” opened at the National Museum “Kyiv Art Gallery”. The project, which was announced as an art exhibition, turned out to be dedicated to the problem of lung cancer in Ukraine. “Deadly Beautiful Exhibition” is a continuation of the Lung Cancer Awareness Year \u2014 a social responsibility project by Roche Ukraine. The excitement around the exhibition was created by representatives of the art community in agreement with its organizers.<\/p>\n

“I managed to see several exhibits and I can say for sure \u2013 there has never been one like that in Ukraine,” <\/em>wrote artist and journalist Oleksandra Kovalyova on her Facebook page the day before the opening. \u2013\u00a0This is an exhibition about life, death and beauty. And about the fear that can only be conveyed in color. Only three days. Don’t miss it”.<\/em><\/p>\n

On February 4, World Cancer Day, the “Deadly Beautiful Exhibition” opened and surprised the audience. During the exhibition, the organizers told about the essence and the true mission of the project. Large colored canvases might seem like vivid examples of modern art, but in an instant, in front of the guests, panels with a description of the project and a biography of the author of the exposition appeared.<\/p>\n

“Tatiana is not an artist, and what you see is not her work. These are 100-fold enlarged photographs from a histological examination of stained cells of her lung affected by cancer\u201d, <\/em>said Katya Taylor, curator of the \u201cDeadly Beautiful Exhibition\u201d and founder of the cultural management agency Port.<\/p>\n

The author of the exhibition, 61-year-old resident of Kyiv Tetiana Klymenko, was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the left lung a year ago. After surgical removal of the cancer, doctors found that they managed to overcome the disease in the first stage, when treatment is easier and faster.<\/p>\n

“I fell ill with bronchitis and went to the doctor without delay. Diagnosis quickly identified the disease, I had surgery and, in a few days, I returned to normal life <\/em>\u2014 says Tetiana Klymenko. \u2014 I don’t know how it would have turned out if no one had found the small spot you now see in 100 times magnification\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

The exhibition is part of the Lung Cancer Awareness Year, launched by Roche Ukraine. The project aims to draw public attention to the disease, which kills about 9,000 Ukrainians every year. The probable reason for such statistics is that lung cancer is often asymptomatic, and most patients ignore regular medical examinations.<\/p>\n

“Even when specific symptoms appear, like shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, they can be confused with signs of other diseases. Some patients did not pay attention to a mild cough for months, because they thought it was bronchitis, a cold or a consequence of smoking,”<\/em> says the organizer of the exhibition, medical director of Roche Ukraine Oksana Surtseva.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
