By November, DP DHL will become the first logistics company to serve the southern French city of Nice using only electric-powered vehicles. 10 delivery vans will provide clean and carbon-neutral delivery for the first and\u00a0the last kilometer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0Nice,\u00a0on the Cote d’Azur, DHL Express is already setting a good example for environmentally responsible logistics. Currently, DHL makes 70% of its express pickups and deliveries in the Mediterranean city \u2013 more than 700 parcels per day \u2013 with electric vehicles. By the end of November, though, this will climb to 100%. The improvement will reduce Nice’s CO2 emissions by over 50 tons annually, compared to 2017.<\/p>\n

“DHL is committed to a truly green logistics approach and is at the forefront of innovation in this field,”<\/em> says Michel Akavi<\/strong>, CEO of DHL Express France. “By 2020, 15% of our fleet in France will be electric. By 2025, 70% of our deliveries will be made with zero-emission solutions. Our experience in Nice is a pilot project for us. It proves that alternatives exist to reduce CO2 emissions.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Next stop: Paris\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before Christmas, DHL Express will operate 10 electric vehicles \u2013 with capacities up to four cubic meters and a range of over 100 kilometers \u2013 to deliver throughout Nice. All of the vans are undergoing\u00a0the ISO 50001 energy management certification process, to make DHL Express the first logistics company to be ISO\u00a050001 certified in 12 European countries.<\/p>\n

Over the course of 2018, DHL Express France intends to acquire as many as 20 new vehicles for Paris, as well, to create a so-called “DistriGreen” in the French capital, where customers\u00a0will be served solely by zero-emission vehicles. In addition, DHL will also continue to develop new distribution methods to reduce its carbon footprint, such as improving consignments, expanding the Relais Colis network, making appointments with recipients prior to delivery and experimenting with collaborative deliveries.<\/p>\n
