EBA supports the modernisation of labour legislation

The European Business Association supports the efforts of the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine to update labour legislation. This issue is highly relevant for the business community amid a critical labour shortage caused by the war. According to the latest wave of the Ukrainian labour market survey conducted by the European Business Association jointly with labour market expert Tetiana Pashkina, 74% of companies are experiencing an acute staff shortage, while a further 21% report a partial shortage. Updating labour legislation is also necessary, given that the current Labour Code was adopted in 1971 and therefore cannot fully address modern challenges and trends. Experts from member companies of the EBA were actively involved in the preparation of the draft of the new Code. Most of the business community’s proposals have been taken into account in the version submitted by the Government to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The EBA will continue to contribute to the refinement of the draft law within the relevant parliamentary working group.
