Helios Strategia Integrates Utility-Scale Energy Storage System with Solar Plant in Ukraine

03/ 10/ 2025
This year, Helios Strategia Group successfully launched one of Ukraine’s first utility-scale energy storage system (ESS) projects connected directly to solar power plant (SPP). The 1 MW / 2 MWh Energy Pack has been integrated into a 1.34 MW utility-scale SPP, forming a cutting-edge solution for clean and reliable energy. Vladyslav Shevchenko. Chief Commercial/Marketing Officer, Helios Strategia The company is currently actively involved in the development of the SPP and BESS segments in Ukraine. It provides a complete cycle of project implementation — from technical concept to launch. The focus is on the reliability of solutions and customer support in the new energy reality. In Ukraine, utility-scale ESS technologies remain in the early stages of adoption, particularly those integrated directly with solar power plants. However, the renewable energy sector is increasingly focused on ESS integration and its potential across various industries, where the synergy of renewable energy sources (RES) and energy storage provides significant advantages. The Energy Pack enhances the flexibility of the PV plant by storing surplus energy and supplying it back to the grid during peak demand. This significantly improves the efficiency of power generation and helps balance grid loads – an increasingly important function amid the growth of renewable energy sources and the disruption caused by the ongoing full-scale invasion, which has severely impacted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The system includes 314 Ah lithium battery cells, a power conversion system (PCS), a smart battery management system (BMS), as well as integrated fire protection and liquid cooling systems, ensuring reliable operation in temperature ranges from extreme frost to over +50°C. In the commercial sector, the benefits are already apparent: reduced electricity and infrastructure costs, increased energy autonomy, and exemption from carbon taxes. In the industrial sector, ESS enables more balanced and efficient use of generated power. Given the unpredictability of weather and thus – solar output, ESS systems ensure that energy can be used precisely when it is needed most, especially during periods of high demand. Moreover, energy storage systems shorten the return on investment (ROI) cycle. With optimized usage and electricity costs under 1 UAH/kWh, the payback period for systems such as Energy Pack is approximately 4-5 years. The company provides a comprehensive cycle, from the development of technical solutions and equipment supply to the construction, commissioning, and maintenance of renewable energy (RES) assets. The Full-EPC* model enables the team to implement projects without involving third-party contractors, thereby minimising risks and reducing completion times. Participation in professional associations, industry initiatives, and international energy programs is gradually shaping Helios Strategia Groups reputation as a systemic participant in the countrys energy transformation. Helios Strategia Group offers a range of utility ESS solutions of up and above 5 MWh, alongside commercial and industrial (C&I) systems. The Energy Pack is fully scalable, allowing multiple units to be installed in parallel at a single site, ensuring adaptability, resilience, and energy independence as demand continues to grow. Energy storage systems represent the future of the energy sector, where natural energy sources and advanced technologies combine to deliver greater efficiency, reliability, and sustainability for the benefit of both business and humanity at large.
